Chairman’s Report
So much for summer this year! With an unsettled economy, many of us chose to holiday at home or within the UK - the weather could at best be described similarly as unsettled.
If you’re not aware, Lancashire County Council is proposing to close our local household waste recycling centre in Claughton. Our nearest tip would then be at Preston, some 8 miles away! We are very much against this and would ask you all to respond against this proposal - please read on to find out how.
Great effort by all on the sunflower growing, especially with the conditions we’ve had. I see the competitive spirit was just as keen this year, with some beautiful displays in many gardens. The pupils at Kirkland and Catterall St. Helen's C of E Primary School have joined us this year in growing the tallest sunflower and now the new term has started their results will be known soon. The Parish Council has awarded a Barton Grange gift voucher to the school.

Sunflower Results
Tallest plants this year (and a new record height) were:
- 3.43m (11ft 4in) ……….. Lyndhurst, 18 The Green – Winner of the £25 gift voucher from Barton Grange Garden Centre.
- 3.23m (10ft 7in) ……….. 6, St Helens Close
- 2.67m (10ft 6in) ……….. 14, The Green
Vacancy for the Office of Parish Councillor
A vacancy currently exists on Kirkland Parish Council. If you feel that you have something to give to your local community why not apply for co-option to the Council. Claughton Household Waste Recycling Centre

DOG FOULING IN CHURCHTOWN
Did you know it is an offence?
For any person in charge of a dog to allow the dog to foul the footway of any highway or any public place or a grass verge adjacent to the road.
To allow a dog to be on the road unless that dog is on a lead and under proper control.
To allow dogs to foul on the grounds of the local Playing Field and Play Areas.
For a dog to be in a public place and not wearing a collar and tag giving the name and address of the owner.
Following changes to litter collections by Wyre Council dog waste can be placed in the red dog bins AND in the litter bins provided in the Village.
Or TAKE IT HOME!!
Kirkland Parish Council
The Parish Council meets bi-monthly and residents are more than welcome to attend, public participation is encouraged. Meetings are held in Kirkland Memorial Hall, The Avenue, at 7.30pm.

Calling all landowners with dykes or water courses!!
With the recent heavy rainfall there have been problems with flooding in Kirkland Parish. Whilst the Environment Agency clear the dykes under their responsibility and ensure there is a clear passageway out to sea many landowners are not carrying out their responsibilities by ensuring that the dykes and water courses crossing their land are clear and running free. It is the responsibility of the landowner and not the tenant.
Please clean out your dykes for the safety of ALL residents in Kirkland.
