Welcome to the first Kirkland Parish Council Newsletter

Kirkland has employed a

Parish Lengthsman

The Parish Council has received many requests from the residents of Churchtown for a Parish Lengthsman to ensure the Village and the surrounding areas in the Parish are kept clean and tidy. Kirkland Parish Council has secured the employment of a highly qualified and greatly recommended person to fulfil this role.

Mr. Tim Hoyles began as Kirkland Parish Lengthsman in April this year. He is employed by the Parish Council and will work five hours per week. No doubt many residents have already seen him and evidence of his work in the Village.

The Parish Council feels sure all residents will be delighted that Tim will use his time and expertise to enhance the appearance of the Parish and he will be pleased to hear your appreciation of his work.

Duties of the Parish Lengthsman

The duties undertaken include litter picking, weed removal and spraying and debris sweeping of all public areas of the Parish including footways, these being either flagged, cobbled or tarmac, grass verges and channels in the road.

The removal of dog fouling from footpaths, report any areas where this is a serious problem and be prepared to act as the parish’s agent in any legal proceedings, which may result.

To report any highway problems which may arise. i.e. potholes, flooding, street lighting faults.

To be polite and friendly to members of the public at all times.

To cut out and clean the debris from gully grates on rural lanes, where there is no kerb and to sweep all highway channels and clean grid tops.

To wash all highway signs when required, to mow sight line verges fortnightly or as directed.

To maintain a good working relationship with the agents of other local authorities.

To maintain and keep in good repair all seating, bus shelters and Parish Notice Boards and to remove all graffiti from Parish property.

To keep clean and maintain all memorials in the Parish. To cut, prune and maintain all hedges and trees in the Parish Councils ownership.

To twice yearly walk all public footpaths in the Parish and report any faults found to the Parish Clerk.

To report over grown vegetation on footpaths which do not maintain the maximum width and could cause pedestrians problems.

To pick and remove all litter from Parish property and public areas.

To be responsible for overseeing any works carried out by a contractor employed by the Parish Council.

As with anyone’s work, Tim will be pleased to be praised for his excellent achievements. However, should residents have problems or complaints please do not direct these to Tim, but to the Parish Council, through Cllr. J. Beattie on 603625, the Parish Clerk or other members of the Parish Council.

Parish Council Newsletter

Kirkland Parish Council is aiming to become a Quality Parish Council and part of the criteria is to produce a Newsletter quarterly. It will not just be for Parish Council information but to reflect the many activities of the residents of Kirkland Parish. Any Parishioner wishing to write an article for inclusion should contact the Clerk.
