KIRKLAND PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER March 2006 Issue 3 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Kirkland Parish Council is one of the smallest in the Borough and we are pleased to have developed two great links with other organisations. Firstly, our partnership with both Catterall and Pilling Parish Councils and secondly, a closer partnership with the Churchtown Civic Society. These are enabling us to work with greater strength, for the benefit of our beautiful Parish. Talking of our beautiful Parish, I’m sure you will all have seen Tim Hoyles, our fabulous Parish Lengthsman, working hard to keep the Parish neat and tidy. We have successfully negotiated an increase in his work for the Parish to seven hours per week. Tim will always be glad of a cheery ‘Hello’ or ‘Thank you’ when you meet him around the Village and surrounding lanes. On the subject of green things, the Parish Council has agreed to take over the responsibility for the organisation of the Best Kept Village Competition. The Churchtown Civic Society has performed wonders in the Village, through this competition, for the pleasure of villagers and visitors. We thank them for their excellent work over many years. The Parish Council is keen to continue with the colourful displays in the summer months, but also to establish some more sustainable projects, for year round enjoyment. Any suggestions or offers of help will always be warmly welcomed. Finally, I should mention transport! The speed limit on the A586 is never far from our thoughts at Parish Council meetings! We are looking at purchasing or better utilisation of existing mobile speed indicator devices (the ones that flash up your actual speed, with a smiley face if you are under the limit) to help reinforce speed limits within rural Parishes. The bus shelter in front of the Horn’s Inn is about to be installed including the raised pavement for ease of boarding and I’m sure all users will welcome a dry, sheltered place to wait for their bus, when the work is done. We try to make Parish Council meetings interesting and enjoyable. The Parish Councillors would be delighted to see some villagers at the meetings. Come along and see what goes on! Whether it’s the side of the road, a footpath, green area or public right of way. These problems NEED REPORTING if anything is to be done. Wyre Borough Council state there is no record of problems and can not justify erecting collection bins, although the litter bins are being used by dog owners to dispose of the fouling. Problem areas should be reported to Wyre Borough Council on 01253 891000 option 2.
