KIRKLAND PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER Autumn 2008 Issue 8 TEAM GB
Weren’t the Olympics and the ongoing Paralympics fantastic? In a summer of dreary weather they were truly amazing. For me the most inspiring part was when the cyclists having just crossed the finish line for gold didn’t revel in their own abilities but went over to share the moment with the team that had brought them there. There was such a team spirit within our athletes. All hopes for victory weren’t put upon the shoulders of a few but there was a genuine will for all the athletes to do their best. And did they deliver. United behind a corporate identity of Team GB, believing and achieving as one not as individuals. I’ve been reflecting upon the success of the Olympics for Great Britain and our community. How many wonderful things are going on. I’ve attempted to draw up a list of the different organisations that are operating in our community to make it a richer place to live. They are as follows:- Memorial Hall Committee, Mother’s Union, St Helen’s Church, Churchtown Society, School Governors and Governors Charity Committee, Friends of Kirkland and Catterall St Helen’s School, Parochial Church Council, Parish Council, Children’s Festival Committee, Friends and Fellowship Committee of St Helens Church, Women’s Institute, St Helens Sunday League, SMASH the church’s youth group and of course our village school, Kirkland and Catterall St Helens C of E School. No less than 15 organisations operating out from the heart of this small community. That is something truly worth celebrating and to a large extent all operating on a voluntary basis. I challenge anyone in Kirkland parish to say there is nothing to do!! But how to bring it all together as one? To pull together in the same direction striving to make this an even better place to live. I don’t have the answer to this but what we as a Parish Council can offer is a forum, through this newsletter, to unite the organisations, to give all an opportunity to write about what is going on in the community and to draw upon it for support. After all, without parishioners there would not be a parish.
