Kirkland Parish |
Kirkland Kirkland WI is a small Women’s Institute with a membership of around thirty drawn mainly from the villages of Catterall and Churchtown. Our membership has a wide age range from thirties to eighties. In 2005 we celebrated its 84th Birthday. As a small organisation we have a reputation for friendliness and a warm welcome for anyone new who would like to join us. Meetings are monthly on the 2nd Wednesday and begin at 7.30 p.m. We meet at Kirkland and Catterall Memorial Hall, which is situated on The Avenue, Churchtown, at the junction of the A6 and the A586. The monthly meetings usually have a speaker or demonstration –topics have included Travels in Central America, Plants, Gardening, Belly Dancing, Tai Chi, African Drumming, The Bronte’s, and Lancaster Castle. We also organise trips—in recent years we have visited the House of Raj in Bolton, Browsholme Hall, Clitheroe Ghost Walk, Twelfth Night at Houghton Tower. We also enjoy meals out—celebrating our Birthday - and an annual Hot Pot supper. If you would like to give Kirkland WI a try then feel free to come along on the 2nd Wednesday, or alternatively ring our Secretary: Dorothy Walmsley 602558
